Davangere benne dosa is a special butter dosa from Davangere, a city in central Karnataka. The potato palya that comes with this dosa is simple and bland in flavour. This bland palya complements the Spicy coconut chutney served with Davangere benne dosa excellently.
I only used onions and green chilies to make this potato palya. You can, however, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and turmeric powder if desired. The subtle sweetness of the sautéed onions perfectly balances the earthy flavour of the potatoes. Overall, you get a mild and light potato stuffing that tastes like mashed potatoes but has not been spiced.
This potato masala goes well with regular Dosa, Rava Dosa, and Set Dosa. if you prefer a less spicy or bland version You can also try this Potato Bhaji recipe, which can be served with plain dosa or uttapam as well as Masala dosa.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 7 minutes
3-4 medium pressure cooked, peeled and mashed Potatoes;
1 medium chopped Onion;
1 finely chopped Green Chili;
1 tbsp. Oil;
Salt - As per taste.
How to cook?
Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions. Saute it till they are translucent.
Add the green chilli, finely chopped. You can also add 2 to 3 green chilies if desired. Stir thoroughly.
Later add in the mashed potatoes.
Season with salt. Mix it well and sauté for 1 minute.
Serve with davangere butter dosas or regular dosas.
