Indian kachumber salad, also known as cucumber-tomato-onion salad, is a light salad made with freshly chopped vegetables and a simple lemon/lime dressing. A 10-minute salad that goes with almost any meal.
Kachumber salad is a traditional Indian salad composed of fresh cucumber, tomato, and onion. The best part about this salad is that it is oil-free. It's also vegetarian, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free. It is typically served as a side dish at lunch and dinner.
It's one of my favourite salads. I adore its crunch, freshness, and flavours. This salad is best served immediately, but if you want to make it ahead of time, chop the vegetables and store them in the refrigerator. Toss in all of the herbs and spices just before serving.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
1 cup small diced cucumber;
1/4 cup small diced carrot (optional);
1/4 cup small diced radish (optional);
3/4 cup small diced tomato;
1/2 cup onion thinly sliced or chopped small
1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves;
Few mint leaves (optional);
1 tbsp. lemon or lime juice freshly squeezed;
1-2 chopped green chili (remove seeds if needed);
1/4 tsp. roasted cumin powder;
1/4 tsp. freshly crushed black pepper;
Salt as per taste;
1/4 tsp. black salt or as per taste.
How to prepare?
In a mixing bowl, combine the cucumber, tomato, carrot, radish, and onion.
Chop the green chilli, coriander leaves, mint leaves, lemon juice, black salt, salt, roasted cumin powder, and crushed pepper. Combine fully.
Check the seasoning. If necessary, season with additional salt or lemon juice.
Serve the kachumber salad right away.
For the best flavour, use fresh ingredients.
Seasoning (salt, pepper, and spices) should always be added right before serving.
