Recipe Info:

The perfect combination of Oats and Grains makes your breakfast more healthy. Breakfast is the most important meal for the day. The healthy you eat, the energetic you would fell. This instant oats idli is a healthy food for diabetic patients and also an easy recipe to make on a busy weekday.



11/2 cup Oats;

1/2 cup Semolina (Sooji/Rava);

1 cup Yogurt (Dahi);

1 grated Carrot (Gajar);

Bunch of Coriander leaves chopped;

1/2 tsp. Eno;

Salt as per taste.

For seasoning:

1 tsp. of oil;

1/2 tsp. Mustard seeds;

1 spring curry leaves, chopped finely;

Pinch of Asafoetida (Hing);

2 finely chopped Green Chilli;

1 tbsp. Chana Dal (bengal Gram dal);

1 tbsp Cashew Broken.


Cooking time: 30 minutes


How to cook?

  1. Let's first begin with the tempering/tadka which would be added to Oats Idli.

  2. Heat oil in medium pan, add chana dal and fry till it turns golden brown. Later add chopped green chillies, curry leaves and Asafoetida and saute it for few seconds. Turn off the flame and set it aside.

  3. In another pan, on a medium flame dry roast the oats till you get the roasted aroma. Allow it to cool and blend it in a mixer to make a powder.

  4. Ina large mixing bowl, add oats powder, rava, roasted seasoning, carrot and coriander leaves. Mix it well. Now, add yogurt, salt and little warm water and make a thick batter. The consistency should be slightly loose than normal idli batter. Set it aside for 20-25 minutes.

  5. Add Eno and salt after resting period.

  6. Pre-heat the idli steamer with water. Grease oil on idli plates and pour batter in each cavity.

  7. Place it on a steamer and let it steam for about 15-20 minutes.

  8. Serve hot oats idli with Sambar or tomato chutney.


Pinakin's notes:

  • Butter milk can be used instead of water.

  • Roast it well to eliminate the sticky texture from Oats.

  • You can store the remaining ingredients in an air tight container for about few minutes.
