This recipe is one the most versatile recipe which can be found in every Indian household. Masoor dal with spinach or Dal Palak is a protein rich dal which nourishes your body with protein, iron and folic acid.
Diabetic, cancer patients, PCOS, heart patients can reduce the oil to 2 tsp instead of 4 tsp.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
1 cup Masoor dal (Split red lentils);
1 cup Spinach chopped (palak);
2 tsp. Oil;
1 tsp. Cumin seeds;
1/2 cup Onions, chopped finely;
1/2 tsp. Turmeric Powder;
2 tsp Dry Mango powder (Amchur);
1/2 cup Tomato, finely chopped;
Salt as per taste;
3/4 tsp. Chilli Powder.
1 tbsp. chopped Garlic;
1 tsp. Chopped Ginger;
1 tbsp. Green chillies, chopped.
How to cook?
To make Dal Palak, pour 11/2 cup of water in a pressure cooker and add masoor dal. Pressure cook it for atleast 2-3 whistles.
Allow steam to escape before opening the lid.
Heat oil in deep kadai. Add cumin seeds and mxi well for few seconds on a medium flame.
Add onions and saute on a medium flame for about 3 minutes.
Add cooked masoor dal, spinach, turmeric powder, dry mango powder, garlic, ginger, green chillies, tomatoes and salt. mix well and cook it on a medium flame for about 4-5 minutes. Stir occasionally during this time.
Add 1 cup of water and chilli powder. mix well and cook on a medium flame for about 3-4 minutes.
Serve hot with rotis.
